Along with the overwhelming excitement and anticipation of a baby’s birth comes fear of labor and delivery. Over the past several years, there has been a push by some to move from hospital-based births, including in-hospital birthing centers, to home births.
I was frankly shocked and saddened when I read the statistics in this article, When Home Births Go Wrong. I encourage you to read the article and make educated decisions about who attends your labor and delivery.
It is important to emphasize that I have nothing but respect for Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs), and that the story linked above is about Certified Professional Midwifes (CPMs). The abbreviations sound similar but there is a huge distinction to be made because only CNMs are highly trained medical professionals.
