This week on MD for Moms, I'll be interviewing internist Dr. Dana Corriel on health and why women need internists.
I have a confession: I only see my internist when I am sick. I can't remember the last time I went for an annual physical. Are you similarly lax in seeing your primary care doctor when you feel well? The doctor in me knows that yes, I should see my internist regularly and so should you. My guest this week will explain the benefits to having a personal physician and seeing him or her at least yearly for well visits. Dr. Corriel will discuss Dr. Google and the pros/cons of using it as a source of medical information. We will explore signs and symptoms of common illness and so much more.

Learn more about my guest, Dr. Dana Corriel:
Dana Corriel, MD is a board-certified internist working as a primary care doctor in Pearl River, NY, as well as the Director of Quality at Highland Medical, PC. She spent nearly five years as an assistant professor at the World Trade Center Medical Monitoring and Treatment Program at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, NY, treating first responders from 9/11. Her medical residency training was completed at the Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx.
In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Corriel also believes in the importance of a social media presence for physicians, and helps keep her patients updated on medical topics at her Facebook page, found under 'Dr. Corriel'. In her free time, she keeps up with a recreational blog at www.drcorriel.com
, in which she shares her thoughts and experiences on both the medical and non-medical world, being herself a mother and wife, and having taken time off of medicine for a period of self-discovery while having children. She has since found an interest in writing on topics that she loves most, such as parenting, food, commentaries on hot topics and unique ideas and advice on outings, travel and keeping happy. She hopes to appeal to both women and men everywhere, from those who see her as patients in the office to those afar, who can follow her online, and stresses the importance of remembering that doctors are human, too, as is evident in her blog's subtitle, 'Chronicles of the Medical Doctor Next Door.'
