Our show comes on the perfect day - January 23rd, 2019 is Maternal Health Awareness Day in New Jersey: 'A call to action to improve maternal health and safety, and decrease maternal mortality rates.'
Some things that can have dire consequences are highly preventable - one such example is Zika virus. Dr. Faro will review steps moms and dads should take to mitigate risk of contracting Zika virus and other similarly preventable dangers. Other relatively common complications of pregnancy such as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia and of delivery such as hemorrhage are not always as easy to directly prevent, but Dr Faro will explain signs and symptoms of these conditions and ways to maximize health and reduce risk.
Black women are three times more likely to die in childbirth than their white counterparts - this is a scary statistic. Dr. Revital Faro will explore with us the multi-factorial, complex causes for this horrible discrepancy. We will delve into what signs and symptoms should never be ignored and words to use when advocating for medical care if you fear you are not being appropriately heard.
