This week on MD for Moms, I interview Dr Sonal Patel, Board Certified Pediatrician, Neonatologist, Lactation Consultant and founder of NayaCare, a newborn specialty care practice that focuses on baby and mom at home. The fourth trimester is special time that is too often filled with trips to and from the pediatricians office rather than spent at home, bonding and getting comfortable with baby. Many countries in Europe provide home care services and Dr. Patel appreciated the benefit this provides and started NayaCare to afford new moms the same opportunity.
Why is the fourth trimester such an important time in the transition to new motherhood? What can new moms and partners do to make this time as smooth and enjoyable as possible? How does breastfeeding fit in and what strategies can moms employ to make the process easier? Is it breast or bust (so to speak)? We also discuss the transition to motherhood from an emotional standpoint and how to make the process go smoothly with baby number one and every baby after that. There is lots to explore when it comes to optimizing the opportunities for bonding and enjoying your baby during the magical fourth trimester, so this is a show you don’t want to miss if you’re expecting, be it your first or your fourth!
