MD for Moms Radio | MDOC: Dr. Jennifer Kurtz | Big Info on Little Babies | Feb 22nd, 2017

Photo attribution: Every Wednesday 1pm (ET) on The BBM Global Network and TuneIn Radio. This week on MD for Moms, I'll be interviewing Neonatologist Dr. Jennifer Kurtz as part of the Mama Docs On Call (MDOC) Series. Having a newborn in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is stressful and scary for the entire family. As a result, parents often have many questions about the NICU and struggle to find answers. Dr. Kurtz will explain common reasons for NICU admissions and ways parents can cope through the process. She will answer many common questions and shed light on ways to improve a baby's outcome. Some of the many topics and questions to be explored include: Can mom prevent delivering a baby early? Can and should mom provide breast milk for her NICU baby? Does a hospital need to have a NICU to be a safe place for delivery? Are most preemies ok after discharge? What can you do to support another parent whose baby is in the NICU? Learn the answers to these and many, many more questions on this episode of MD for Moms.

This week on MD for Moms, I'll be interviewing Dr. Amanda Jones, board certified pediatrician and international board certified lactation consultant about breast feeding. Nursing is a hot topic and people have many opinions, so how do you know what is fact vs. fiction? You listen to Dr. Amanda Jones! She knows if nipple confusion is real, whether you can start pumping right away or if you should wait, whether pumping and dumping does any good and so much more. Dr. Jones will also explain ways to improve poor latch and low production, and advise on the 'right' time to stop nursing. Dr. Jones has an incredibly rare and valuable vantage point on this subject given her extensive training as a pediatrician and a lactation consultant, so this is a show not to be missed!
